Residents can now safely dispose of damaged or swollen lithium-ion batteries at a dedicated facility at Carryduff Household Recycling Centre.
A new facility has been introduced at Carryduff Household Recycling Centre to allow residents to safely dispose of damaged or swollen lithium-ion batteries.
Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council says damaged batteries can pose a fire risk if they aren't handled and disposed of correctly. The dedicated storage container at Carryduff is designed to contain the extreme heat and toxic fumes that can be produced if a lithium-ion battery catches fire.
Where to take a damaged battery
If you have a damaged or swollen lithium-ion household battery, take it to Carryduff Household Recycling Centre and speak to a member of staff when you arrive.
Important: damaged or swollen lithium-ion batteries are not accepted at The Cutts or Drumlough Household Recycling Centres. Intact batteries can continue to be recycled through the normal battery recycling facilities.
